What is Immigration Law?

Answer:
Immigration law is the federal guideline for
determining whether a person is a United States citizen, resident alien or undocumented alien and affects their ability to enter the country legally and obtain work.

Immigration law spells out the rules for immigrants wanting to come to the United States and explains what steps they must take before coming to this country if they want to obtain valid identification and employment documents such as a Social Security Number.

Immigration law also addresses the marriage of a citizen to a non-citizen and if that marriage provides automatic entry into the country.  Immigration law is enacted by the United States Congress and is often the subject of heavy debate among legislators.
