What is a DUI?
Answer:
A DUI or Driving Under the Influence is an arrest
for Driving under the Influence of alcohol or drugs.  A serious crime, being convicted of a DUI can result in heavy fines, suspension of your driver’s license or even jail time.  State and local law enforcement actively look for drivers under the influence as a way to keep the rest of those on the road safe.

The amount of alcohol or drugs in your blood stream that constitutes DUI varies from state to state, but is always referred to as a percentage of blood content. 

For example, in California a person with a blood alcohol level of .08%, or less than 1% of blood content, is considered Driving Under the Influence and can be arrested and their car impounded for up to 30 days.

A DUI arrest can be expensive, with attorneys fees, fines, and the amount required to get your car out of impound often totaling thousands of dollars.  Depending on your location DUI's are sometimes referred to DWI or Driving While Intoxicated.  Police often set up DUI checkpoints to better attack the problem of drinking and driving.
