What is a Fiscal Year?

Answer:
A Fiscal Year is a term used to describe a 12
month period of financial reporting or financial statements within an organization.  Every business is different with regards to what dates represent their Fiscal Year.  A Fiscal Year doesn't have to be January through December.  It can be April through March or any 12 month date span.

Certain businesses structure their fiscal year for a reason.  Businesses that are extremely busy during certain times of the year (Christmas) may not have time to deal with financial orders.  Regardless, each company is recording financial activities for a 12 month period.

If your business doesn't have much fluctuations or seasonal changes then the best and easiest way to remember your fiscal year is to start on January 1st and end it on December 31st.
