Legislation is defined as the process
or act of making law or a set of laws
by the Legislative Body (Governing Body) in a country.


Before making or converting any proposal into law it must follow certain procedure which is designed in the Legislation Process and this process may vary from country to country. The proposal for making any law is known as “Bill” which than undergoes a series of processes (like analysis, debating, etc.) according to the rules and regulations and than accordingly some amendments can be made if desired and than the proposal is passed with the prescribed majority in the Legislative Body (like Parliament or Congress) to become a Law.

Legislation is always given a Specific Name and mainly consists of collection of various written principles (in the form of Chapters or Parts or Divisions or Subdivisions or Schedules) for guiding the behavior of an individual or an organization in the society. The language of the Legislation is also very important. In Legislation it is accepted that the words are used giving the ordinary, natural and widely accepted meanings except in technical areas.

Legislation is usually available in print or electronic formats and one can get their copy from any specified Government Information Centers or Agencies as well as from Government Websites. The various areas in which there is a need of Legislation are Business, crimes, Contracts, Stamp Duties, Health and Safety, Industrial Relations, Taxation and many more.

Legislation is needed for many regions like for the implementation of a policy when the existing rights and obligations are to modified, policy is having a long term operations, policy is having a very high level of importance and for effective running of various public related services like Courts, Hospitals, Universities and many more.
