What does an Accountant do?

Accountants do more than just prepare tax returns or offer tax advice.  Accountants also prepare financial statements and assist with long term financial planning for both individuals and businesses.  They manage the systems that track income, assets, expenditures and debt, and they are often the “go-to” person for companies wanting to expand their business operations or borrow money.

 

What is a Dependent?

Dependents are people (most often spouses and children) who rely on another person for financial support. Exact definitions for dependents vary based on the institution that you are dealing with. For example, the IRS defines a dependent as a person who you can claim as an exemption on your tax return. This person must be your qualifying child or relative that lives with you for at least half the year and meets further qualifications such as being under age 19 (or 24 if a full time college student).

A conviction is a legal finding of guilt in a criminal trial.  A defendant may stand accused of a crime before and during a trial, but a jury or judge's final judgement converts that accusation into a conviction.
